چکیده

In this paper, an end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) framework for streaming services in 3G mobile networks is considered. A solution based on a Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) hosted multimedia streaming service is studied to avoid accessing through an external IP packet data network (IP-PDN) to streaming services. Under this scenario, the interaction between UMTS and IETF protocols and mechanisms for a streaming session is analyzed. As a part of the proposed framework, a Radio Resource Management (RRM) scheme for the support of streaming services over GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) based third generation (3G) mobile networks is presented. Simulation results on the performance of this RRM scheme show the efficiency for the transmission of streaming services over EGPRS networks.

Dynamic Buffer Management for Multimedia QoS in Beyond 3G Wireless Networks

This paper investigates a dynamic buffer management scheme for QoS control of multimedia services in beyond 3G wireless systems. The scheme is studied in the context of the state-of-the-art 3.5G system i.e. the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) which enhances 3G UMTS to support high-speed packet switched services. Unlike earlier systems, UMTS-evolved systems from HSDPA and beyond incorp...

Wireless Multimedia in 3G networks

This chapter describes the support for IP based multimedia services on Third Generation (3G) wireless cellular networks. While earlier cellular networks offered only basic IP connectivity on a best-effort basis, 3G networks provide explicit support for real time multimedia services with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). As a result, they can offer traditional voice telephony, rich telephony ...

Resource Management and Quality of Service in Third-Generation Wireless Networks

The third generation networks and services present opportunities to offer multimedia applications and services that meet end-to-end quality of service requirements. The key parts of the standards are already in place, and limited 3G services have already been turned on. While the evolution to 3G occurs, many operators will implement 2.5G interim solutions for a good period of time. In this arti...

Adaptive Video Streaming over OpenFlow Networks with Quality of Service

Multimedia streaming applications have stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements which cannot be always met by the best-effort Internet. To provide QoS, several QoS architectures have been explored over last two decades, but none of them has been truly successful and globally implemented. This thesis presents a novel QoS architecture for multimedia streaming based on OpenFlow, a Software ...
